Fabiano Sobreira is architect at the Brazilian Parliament, where he is the head of the Section for Accessibility and Sustainable Design. He’s graduated in Architecture and Urban Planning at the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE – 1996), Doctorate Degree on Urban Development – 2002 (UFPE/University College London – 2002) and Post-Doctoral research at the École d’architecture – Université de Montréal, on Architecture, Competitions and Sustainability.
He’s lecturer and researcher on Architecture and Urban Design since 1999 (UFPE-Recife – 1999-2000, ESUDA – Recife – 2002-2004, UNICEUB – Brasília – since 2005) and he was the Head of the Departament of Architecture and Urban Planning of the ESUDA Faculty in Recife (2002-2004). In 2003, he’s worked at the Mapping Urbanisation for Urban Governance Project, coordinated by the University of Westminster – London, and financed by the DFID-UK.
He’s presented and published papers on Urban Development, Inclusive Design, Sustainable Architecture and Architectural Pedagogy.
Besides his academic works, he’s achieved architectural awards, as the First Prize at the Architectural Competition for the Brazilian Army Habitational Foundation in Brasília, Brazil – 2005 and the first Prize for Built Landscape/Interiors Design at the International Biennial of Brasilia – Brazil – 2006.
Post Doctoral Research Project – financed by the Brazilian Parliament – at the LEAP – Laboratoire d’étude de l’architecture potentielle – École d’architecture, Faculté d’amenagement, supervised by Professor Jean-Pierre Chupin. His proposal is to develop a Comparative Analysis on Architectural Competitions in Europe, Canada and Brazil, including the perspective of Sustainable Design.
He’s co-founder of the NGO Movimento Preservar and the creator and editor in charge of the website concursosdeprojeto.org .
